The Constitution of India — adopted 26 November 1949, in force 26 January 1950 — is the world's longest written constitution. It establishes India as a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic and defines the powers of the Union, states, Parliament, executive and judiciary across 448 articles in 25 parts and 12 schedules.
